Raya at Manchester

Who says I can't have rendang at Manchester??

Well, I've been able to celebrate Hari Raya here just as if I was in Malaysia!
MSSM (Malaysian Society of Manchester) organized a Hari Raya celebration last Saturday in conjuction with 3 other malaysian societies around Manchester. A big group of us went together to join in the Raya atmosphere.. and also to eat free food! :P

2) Sweet & sour chicken
3) Corn beef with spinach

During the Raya month Wani brought me to her senior's house just down Rusholme (about 15 mins walk from my hall) to have a Raya visit. And there was RENDANG~! I was so happy to have a taste of that Malaysian cuisine I miss so much. I also met lots of people from Malaysia there, mostly Malays with few Chinese, including freshers like me and our seniors.

Sorry everyone, I can't really remember all of your names! Haha.. will try to remember them slowly. Of course the food was great: ketupat, kuih jala, curry, rendang, satay sauce... and of course cookies! A big thanks to the host for the yummy food and to Wani for bringing me over :)

I really enjoyed celebrating Hari Raya with Malaysians and getting to eat Malaysian food for free! :D Most of all its having a good time with friends and getting to know more friends that makes my day.

Finally, wishing all the best and gambate to all Form 3 students taking PMR tommorrow! (including my brother) Pray hard and rest well guys~ God Bless you everyone

Purely Food

Hullo again my faithful readers!

Been burning to blog about one of my favourite subjects: FOOD. I have made it an aim to explore the variety of food around Manchester whether its English, Chinese, Pakistani, Malay, Greek?? Spanish.. or anything else! (yup, of course fast food is included). But because of $$$... T.T, I shall explore veeeery slowly.

Also, it is quite easy to get any ingredient you can think of here! All the more reason to look up recipes and have some GLORIOUSFOOD cooking ;) So far, me and 3 amazing-chefs-to-be (Wai Xin, Ying, and May) will be exploring the culinary world together every evening, cooking up brave new menus and most importantly, dishes from home. *sniffs.. homesick*

Its fun to hang around the kitchen and stick your nose around what other flatmates are cooking. In my flat there's 6 local girls, one from Italy, and another from China. English girls will normally make steak, pasta, toast, curry (oh yes they love curry :p) and other nice-smelling grilled food which I didn't get to peek at. The Italian will cook up mostly pasta and salad, while the Chinese will make soups, fried meat + vege, well.. basically anything fried with loads of seasoning from China! Cool huh? Gonna learn from them and try to grab more recipes!

Behold... FOOD:

Harry Ramsden's Traditional Fish and Chips
with mashed beans
(at Old Trafford Centre. GBP 4.80++)

My very 1st baked Jacket Potato!!
I had it with stir-fried chicken in soya sauce.. blend of English and Asian... simply superb!

Quiche. (bacon + egg + mushroom + pepper)
How to cook? Just take out from the freezer and pop it in the oven la :p

Strawberries for dessert!

When missing Cha Siu Fan.. (GBP 3,50)

I'm went to Krispy Kreme!

Cheshire Oaks Shopping Spree!!

Hey hey everyone! Today was a day out with Malaysian Students Society of Manchester (MSSM) to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet! As usual, the weather was biting cold, but that didn't stop us from having fun ;)

Before boarding the coach...

Me and Sin Yuen at the steps of Student Union
(background: Holy Name Catholic Church.. where I go every Sunday!)

May (Brunei), Wai Xin (Subang), Ying (Brunei), and Me

I know... I'm dressed up like some kind of snow person. But I don't care cause it was so cold!! This was on the way to Cheshire..

Me and May
(since everyone else was cam-whoring, we did too :p)

Reached!

Having Starbucks for lunch.. Yummy~

spot the not

chips!

popcorn!

colourful mugs and cookie tins

i'm having brazillian nut crunch ice cream!

Cadbury Choc Factory
(bundles of chocs from as low as 40 p!)

Of course there's loads more that I should take pictures of, like all the designers clothing. But I was to excited shopping to remember about taking pictures :p Yup, so that's all for Cheshire Oaks shopping spree.

Wait! I have to show off some of the things I bought today... Hihihi:

Squash racket and blue balls! I really need comments about these:

Brand : Dunlop
Construction : Titanium Alloy
Frame weight: 200g
Balance : Head light
Head size : 525 cm2
Price : GBP 9.99 (approx. RM 60)

Balls : Beginner's of course!

Ok or not?? I'm just a beginner anyway. I guess it doesn't even matter if I accidentally bought a tennis racket :D I just simply picked up the cheapest racket that looks like it can hit a squash ball. To tell the truth, I had no idea whether the racket I bought was for squash or not. Haha! After paying and leaving the shop then I asked my friend's opinion on what racket did I just buy. Alice! Shi Wei! Really wanted to consult you two 1st before I bought it, but I was low on credit. Ok la my Dunlop hor? Huhu.. *Pressuring squash racket: You better keep me from getting fat!*

now you know why I was so eager to get my squash racket..
Cadbury in da house!

my cute mitten!
*for GLORIOUSFOOD bakings and lazy days when
I just pop something from the freezer into the oven :p*

Just showing off the cosy socks I bought from Primark for GBP 2 (approx. RM 12) that I'm wearing now. Love the pink pom poms!

Gonna post another update soon. Bye bye for now!

Cheers~ (adopted slang from British young people)
